Puel: Internationals In High Spirits
- Claude Puel praises Ben Chilwell and Harry Maguire for their performances in England’s memorable win over Spain
- Chilwell, an Academy graduate, made his first start for the Three Lions against Croatia
- The Foxes manager wants his international players to maintain their good work as his side prepare to take on Arsenal on Monday (8pm BST kick-off)
Ben Chilwell and Harry Maguire both completed 90 minutes during a famous 3-2 victory for the Three Lions over Spain in Seville, with the former making his first senior start for his nation a few days prior against Croatia.
James Maddison, an unused substitute during both clashes, will also have benefitted from his time away with Gareth Southgate’s men.
With City’s Premier League trip to Arsenal on the horizon, Puel says Chilwell, Maguire and Maddison have all returned to Belvoir Drive in high spirits.
Claude Puel
Puel said: “Of course, it’s a good memory for them, winning away against Spain. It’s fantastic. I am happy for both [Chilwell and Maguire], for Madders (James Maddison) also.
“[Ben] Chilwell played well. It was one of his first games and it’s fantastic for a young player to start for the national team and to play two difficult games away against strong opponents in Croatia and Spain.”
Now, the message from Puel is for those who have tasted success over the international break to continue their positive work with the Foxes.
They need to continue their good work in training sessions and in games and to continue to improve
Claude Puel
He added: “Now, it’s important that continue their ways and they have good focus with us to continue to improve because Chilwell, Maddison and [Demarai] Gray are young players.
“They need to continue their good work in training sessions and in games and to continue to improve.”
