We Delivered For The Chairman, Says Skipper Morgan

Leicester City captain Wes Morgan says his team-mates overcame an emotional occasion on Saturday to beat Cardiff City in honour of Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

Playing their first game since the tragic passing of Khun Vichai, the Foxes won 1-0 thanks to Demarai Gray’s second-half strike.

“I think you could see by our reaction at the end of that game, how much we wanted to get this win,” Morgan told LCFC TV. “We wanted to do it for the Chairman. We felt the pressure before the game but we wanted to deliver. That was it.

“It was a scrappy game, but the lads fought to the very end against a very difficult Cardiff team that’s very physical. They rely on set-pieces to go and try and dominate matches, but I thought we dealt with that well to deliver for the Chairman.”

Pulling together after an immensely difficult week for the Football Club, Morgan recalled some cherished moments with Khun Vichai.

Morgan continued: “We were very close to the Chairman. We know what his wishes are, what he wanted from us. He used to come down at home games to see us and we used to have a joke and a laugh about what he wanted.

That’s the kind of connection we have with the fans. They stay to the end and we celebrated that victory with them, we’re all together, and we’re all doing it for the Chairman and that showed.

“He always used to say ‘I want you to win, I want three points’ and we were always trying to get that for him and we did that today. It’s not been an easy week but we had to try and hold our emotions in today, do the best we can, as we could for him.”

The victory over Neil Warnock’s men prompted special scenes at the full-time whistle at Cardiff City Stadium, as the Club’s players and staff celebrated with the 3,000-strong Blue Army.

“It was fantastic,” added the skipper. “Very emotional. That’s the kind of connection we have with the fans. They stay to the end and we celebrated that victory with them, we’re all together, and we’re all doing it for the Chairman and that showed.”
