In City’s first home match since the accident at King Power Stadium, following last week’s 1-0 win at Cardiff City, Claude Puel’s men were held to a 0-0 draw by Burnley.
But the day as a whole, which included a supporters’ march from Jubilee Square, the playing of an emotional tribute video, a two-minute’s silence, an applause on 60 minutes – marking Khun Vichai’s age – and a full-time lap of appreciation, ultimately overshadowed the football.
Speaking to LCFC TV at the end of an overwhelming afternoon, Evans said: “You’ve got to try and go out and concentrate on the game with all the things that are going on around it.
Emotional Khun Vichai Tribute Played On Big Screen
The Blue Army, scarves aloft, held back tears as a beautiful tribute video played on the big screens on Saturday.
“It was emotional, but I think we used that to our advantage today and we really put in a real spirited performance.
“It was like the Chairman always wanted us to play – with fighting spirit and competing in every game and I think we did that today, like we did last week at Cardiff.
“When we got to the stadium, there was an unbelievable atmosphere when we were warming up.
“A few of the lads were saying ‘we need to use this atmosphere and energy within the stadium’ to try and get off to a good start and us it to our advantage.
“We wanted to impose ourselves on the opposition team and the game as a whole. Like I said, I thought we did that.”
On his own personal experiences of the day, Evans added: “I’ve only been at the Club a few months now and, for all the players and staff who have been here a long time, you could tell it was emotional for them and they’ve been through a lot, especially with the Chairman.

“For me, coming from the outside in, from the first day I got here, every day, the Chairman was very highly spoke of.
“He was always spoken about every day with so much affection and it’s still surprised me the way everybody’s come together. The Club’s really shown its true colours and how much of a family it is.”
