Evans: Go Out & Perform

Jonny Evans says Leicester City are ready to focus solely on collecting points and climbing the Premier League table following the third international break of the season.

- Defender Jonny Evans says the international break was beneficial for the whole squad
- City won four points from two fixtures before the fortnight break from domestic action
- Evans says it's time for the Club to refocus on their overall targets for the 2018/19 campaign

After collecting four points from two emotional fixtures at Cardiff City and at home against Burnley, Evans believes Saturday’s fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion is an opportunity for everyone to focus on the overall objectives Claude Puel’s men set in the summer.

“I knew when I joined the Club that it’s an ambitious club and I think the main target is to finish in qualifying for Europe,” the Northern Ireland international said.

“I think that was a big disappointment for everyone last year and obviously there’s the cup competitions that we want to try and win.

“It’s a long season and there’s been a few games this year where we feel like we’ve been hard done by but I think, like I say, the main aim for us is to finish in the top seven.”

Training Special: Brighton

The lads have been working hard at Belvoir Drive as they prepare for the trip to Brighton on Saturday.

Evans, 30, was one of 10 players to represent his country over the past fortnight, taking his caps tally for Northern Ireland up to 76 with two further outings.

Following an emotional two weeks beforehand, where the Club paid tribute to its late Chairman, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the central defender admits the break came at a good time.

“It did, we had an away game and a home game and it probably wasn’t until I’d gone away that I realised how emotionally drained and tired everyone was,” he added.

“You know it was a tough couple of weeks but I thought everyone dealt with it really well, the Club as a whole, and the players, but now we’ve come back from internationals.

“I think it’s important for us to refocus and continue playing well and try to get as many points as possible over the next few weeks.

“Everyone’s still sort of filtering back in, I know some of the lads are just back in today [Thursday] actually and we’ve got a game on Saturday so there’s quite a short turnaround.

“At training yesterday with the boys, we are trying to focus on the next game and I know the manager will have us in the right frame of mind to make sure that we go out and perform.”
