Simpson: Cup Progression Good For Everyone
- Leicester City’s run in the Carabao Cup will be important for the Club’s stars, says right-back Danny Simpson
- Simpson played 90 minutes, helping the Foxes to a third clean sheet in the competition
- The 31-year-old applauded shot-stopper Danny Ward after he saved a penalty in the 6-5 shootout win
The Foxes won 6-5 on spot-kicks, with Danny Ward pulling off a crucial stop from Manolo Gabbiadini in both normal time and during the shootout.
Simpson, making his first start of the season, provided an insight into the positivity in City’s dressing room at the full-time whistle.
“It’s a good competition for us, especially for the squad players and obviously we were at home to get through it,” Simpson told LCFC TV.
“It’s good for everyone, the squad and everyone involved. It’s good to keep that feeling and everyone is buzzing in the dressing room.
Felt good to be back playing at the King Power last night. 90 mins under my belt and through to the quarters. Thank you Wardy 👐🏼 @LCFC pic.twitter.com/sdLq7YsSOr

“We were always confident, obviously we’ve got Wardy (Danny Ward) in goal. I think he nearly got his hand to one of them previously before that.
“We’re always confident with him in goal and all the lads wanted to take one, especially at home, so it’s good we got through.”
Simpson, like many after the game, heaped praise on Wales international goalkeeper Ward, who is yet to concede for Leicester City.
Reflecting on the stop from Gabbiadini in injury time, Simpson said: “It was an unbelievable save, especially as a ‘keeper sometimes you’re not doing too much in the game.

“To do that at the last minute, he had a strong hand and it was a great save. We can put the win down to him to be honest.”
Delighted to notch up 90 minutes for the first time this term, Simpson added: “For me, it’s just nice to be playing back at King Power Stadium, it’s been a long time and I felt a little bit rusty, but I think that’s normal when you’ve not played for a long time.
“Just to be back out there with the lads and back at King Power Stadium, to get 90 minutes as well, it felt really good and I’m just trying to push on from here.”
