LCFC Community Trust Launch Premier League Primary Stars Poetry Competition

- There were six schools, with 10 pupils per school present at the launch aimed at inspiring young participants to become confident with their writing ability
- A number of special guests helped launch the event; local poets Sophie Sparham and Mark Markham, Paralympian Paige Murray and Community Trust Younger Leader Ria Thomas
- Competing schools have until 21st December 2018 to submit their diversity-themed poem

Against all Odds is a set scheme of work, a part of the Primary Stars project, which has been designed to inspire young participants to become more confident and creative with their writing.

This year pupils are to write poems based on the theme of diversity, using inspiration from the poem written specially for Premier League Writing Stars; Beautifully different, Wonderfully the same by Joseph Coelho.

The Club had guests Paige Murray as well as Leadership camp participant Ria Thomas talk about diversity, before Mark Markham read out his own poem on the subject and helped the pupils make their own composition – which was later read aloud in groups.

The poem and subject are designed to encourage us to think of ways to celebrate similarities and differences that bring us together.

School Sports Officer, Ryan Bromyard, spoke prior to the launch and said: "The Writing Stars event at King Power stadium was to celebrate Diversity.

“The guests have been inspirational to all schools present here today.

“You could see within just an hour how engaged the participants were and the work they were producing was the highlight of this!

“Writing is such an important life skill, which can be so powerful to inspire not only the people around you, but yourself.”
