Maguire: Put On A Performance Against Man City

Following Saturday’s 1-0 reverse to Crystal Palace, centre-back Harry Maguire says the best way to bounce back is to put in a convincing display in their next game against Manchester City.

Leicester City were defeated following Luka Milivojević’s solo strike – a perfectly-placed effort from distance in the first half that proved to be the only goal of the game.

While disappointed by the Foxes’ result at Selhurst Park, Maguire says his side’s Carabao Cup Quarter-Final tie with Manchester City at King Power Stadium on Tuesday gives them a chance to immediately correct their performance on the pitch.

“Whenever you lose a game you’re always looking for your next one and thankfully it’s only in a couple of days,” Maguire told LCFC TV at the full-time whistle on Saturday.

“We’ll prepare well for Tuesday, another big game, the quarter final of the cup [against Manchester City].

“Hopefully it’ll be packed out at King Power Stadium and the atmosphere is buzzing, and hopefully we can put on a performance and get the result that warrants it.”

Maguire Gives Palace Assessment

City defender Harry Maguire gives his thoughts on the 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Discussing City’s loss to the Eagles – only their second in nine outings in all competitions – Maguire said: “Everyone is disappointed, we’ve worked tirelessly all week trying to put on a good performance this week and the first 20 minutes we started pretty slow, [there was] not really any tempo from either team really.

“They probably edged the first 20 minutes, apart from the first 20 minutes I would say we were the better team and in control of the game. Then they scored when we were playing our best football, in our first spell of pressure.

“To be fair to him (Luka Milivojević), it’s a great strike, a great finish. We’ll look back and we’ll work hard. In the second half we huffed and puffed, like I said again we were probably the better team, in their half for the majority of it, creating chances.

“Obviously Vards (Jamie Vardy) had a great chance and a great save from the goalkeeper, on another day it goes in and we come away with a draw but it’s disappointing to lose the game.”

Harry Maguire made his first appearance for the Foxes since the start of November.

The clash with Roy Hodgson’s men saw Maguire make his first appearance since injuring his knee in the 1-0 victory at Cardiff City on 3 November.

“It was great being back out there,” Maguire added. “I’ve been fortunate with injuries during my career, this is the longest one I’ve had.

“It’s been six weeks today (Saturday) since I played at Cardiff so it was nice to be back out there and play 90 minutes with the boys, I’ve missed it over six weeks.

“I had a little pinch in the first 15 seconds [against Crystal Palace] but it felt really good apart from that. I’m happy to be back out there, now I can kick on for the rest of the season.”
