We Can Build On This Performance, Says Albrighton

The 29-year-old scored an outstanding equaliser in the 73rd minute following Kevin de Bruyne’s opener, but a 3-1 shootout loss saw them exit the Carabao Cup in the quarter-finals stage.

Despite the disappointment of defeat, Albrighton believes the Foxes can be proud of their level of performance against the Premier League and Carabao Cup holders.

“For us to put on a second half performance like we did, we’ve got to take encouragement and confidence from that and take it to Stamford Bridge,” he told LCFC TV at full-time.

Albrighton: We Score Together & Miss Together

Leicester City winger Marc Albrighton speaks to LCFC TV following the Foxes' penalty shootout defeat by Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.

“We’ll go there and put up a good fight and get a result. We’re disappointment because we came so far and took [Manchester City] all the way.

“We said before if we can get them to penalties we need to make sure we finish them off. We did half of that but didn’t do the full job.

“We were saying as we were watching the penalties that this is our year, we’re not going to let last year happen again and unfortunately it did.”

Claude Puel’s men will bounce back, Albrighton says, as they turn attentions to Saturday’s visit to Chelsea in the Premier League (3pm GMT kick-off).

The 2016 title winner also praised the bravery of City’s spot-kick takers in testing circumstances and backed his colleagues to recover from the setback swiftly.

“We all bounce back, the lads that stepped up and took penalties have got to be proud of themselves and the courage to step up and take them,” he added.

“We score together and miss together, so nobody holds anything against the lads that missed, credit to the them for stepping up.”
