LCFC Community Trust Hosts Christmas Boccia Event

LCFC Community Trust got into the festive spirit earlier this month with a Christmas boccia event for adults with disabilities at the Walkers Hall.

- 24 teams with over 150 players and staff made their way to the King Power Stadium for a Christmas-themed boccia festival, which took place on Wednesday 12 December
- Boccia is a Paralympic sport, very similar to bowls
- Each team were given a ground tour, with Filbert Fox making a surprise appearance

LCFC Community Trust hosted a round-robin boccia tournament for all the adult day service participants, that take part in the Trust’s Disability programme - with an added Christmas flavour.

Staff and players were dressed in Christmas jumpers and Santa hats, with the event taking place in a Walkers Hall filled with Christmas decorations – even Filbert had his Santa hat on!

Teams were made up of participants from adult day services and charities across Leicestershire and Rutland, supported by wonderful staff and organisations that encourage inclusion and sports participation for their service users.

Each team competed in a mini-league, with four teams playing each other once.

Of six groups, the top sides from each group met in a grand finale to decide the winners. The winning teams were:

- Team Marko (The Lodge, Rutland)
- The Royal Blues (Enrych Support, North West Leicestershire)
- Accredo (Accredo Support, Charnwood)

While teams had a break from the boccia action, they were given a guided tour around King Power Stadium, going into the changing rooms and pitchside.

Filbert Fox made a surprise entrance while the participants were checking out the home changing room, much to their delight, and all the groups had plenty of photo opportunities.

The smiles on the faces of the players and staff throughout the day showed how much the event meant to each of them, with this being the first event on this scale that many of the players had attended.
