The Foxes were defeated 1-0 late on by Cardiff City last time out, despite dominating for large periods of the game at King Power Stadium.

For Puel, with Everton up next, it will be vital to manage his stars as Leicester's busy festive period comes to a close on Merseyside.

“Sometimes, this situation arrives,” said Puel ahead of his side’s fourth Premier League game in the space of just 11 days.

We will see the players available for us, the recovery and the rest. We want to try to have a good intensity in our performance against Everton.

Skipper Wes Morgan and Northern Ireland centre-back Jonny Evans, meanwhile, both missed the Cardiff clash due to sickness.

“I don’t know if they will be match fit,” said Puel of City’s defensive duo. “I don’t know yet, we will see.”

Finally, Puel went on to explain why Academy graduate Hamza Choudhury was rested on Saturday after helping the Foxes to back-to-back victories over Chelsea and Manchester City.

He added: “It was a rest and on the bench, I took the option with [Vicente] Iborra because we played against a team with a long kick, that play long balls and have a lot of aerial battles.

“Also, if we needed a midfielder at the end to perhaps keep a result and defend our position.”
