A Great Away Team Performance For Maguire

The New Year’s Day showdown ended in another festive win for the Foxes, who sealed three points thanks to Jamie Vardy’s 58th-minute effort.

While Maguire admitted it wasn’t the most entertaining spectacle on Merseyside, the England international defender says the Foxes deserved to claim all three points with a gutsy display.

"It wasn’t the greatest game, it was a bit scrappy,” said Maguire. “We’re the away team, it’s a typical great away team performance.

“We were really solid, we didn’t concede many chances at all and we always caused them a few problems on the break, especially in the second half.

Jamie Vardy punches the air after netting his seventh goal of the Premier League campaign.

“I feel like it was a deserved win and a good three points to take back.”

The result capped an impressive run from which Leicester have claimed nine points from a possible 12 with victories over Chelsea, Manchester City and most recently Everton.

“We’d have taken that beforehand with four difficult fixtures,” said Maguire. “The one we were favourites to win (vs. Cardiff City) we get beat in but it’s a good return and it’s put us in a position in the league that we want to stay in now.

“We had to make it difficult for Everton today and we felt we did that. We hit them well on the counter attack. [We have to] keep it going and work hard in the New Year and hopefully we can kick on.”

We made it scrappy out there and that’s what we wanted to do. Obviously, we’ve got players in this team who can hurt teams and it’s nice to come away with the victory.

Maguire was pleased with the way City addressed the lack of first-half intensity, and how they grew into the game after the interval against Marco Silva's men.

He added: “We said at half-time, the intensity of the game was a bit slow, it was a flat atmosphere. It’s tough playing as many games in those games but probably fatigue set the tempo a bit.

“It suited us down to the ground being the away team, but it was a good, solid performance from ourselves.
