'There's Huge Excitement Among Liverpool's Fanbase'

Leicester City will come up against a side with 'great belief' when they tackle Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday, says Liverpool Echo reporter James Pearce.

Jürgen Klopp's Reds have been in sensational form, winning 19 of their 23 Premier League fixtures and conceding just 13 goals, as they pursue a 19th English title.

With just one loss to their name in the league as well, a 2-1 reverse to reigning champions Manchester City, the task the Foxes will face is a daunting one.

However, Claude Puel's men have already proven, during a narrow defeat in September at King Power Stadium, that they can cause problems for the league's best defence.

With the Merseyside club holding a four-point advantage over Pep Guardiola's Man City - with 15 games remaining - Pearce, a regular Anfield attendee, says the omens are good.

Liverpool have been serious contenders from the get-go at the start of August so this is now a more complete team and squad.

James Pearce Liverpool Echo

"There’s great belief within the squad and huge excitement among the fanbase because Anfield’s been a real fortress for Liverpool this season," he told LCFC Radio's Matchday Live show.

"And there’s a wonderful atmosphere around the place. Of course, they had a little wobble at the beginning of January, but they’ve responded in the right way ever since.

"Those two games against Brighton (1-0) and Crystal Palace (4-3) were tight games, but they did what they needed to do to get the three points.

"Liverpool have been serious contenders from the get-go at the start of August so this is now a more complete team and squad."

Klopp has built a stubborn defence at Anfield this season with the summer arrival of goalkeeper Alisson Becker from Roma helping Liverpool keep 13 clean sheets.

While City did score against the Reds in September's 2-1 loss, just one of the 13 goals conceded by Klopp's leaders, it came about following a rare Alisson mistake.

However, Pearce pointed to Leicester's recent history against Liverpool and said that he expects Wednesday's encounter to be difficult evening for the hosts.

He continued: "It will be one that Liverpool will have to grind out. Certainly the game at King Power Stadium back in September was a battle for the them.

Alisson Becker's first season at Anfield has made a massive impact on Liverpool's fortunes.

"They had to weather a real storm in the second half after an error from Alisson and I can see this game going a similar way because Leicester tend to give Liverpool a game.

"This is a Leicester team that raises their game against the bigger teams. They beat Chelsea and Manchester City so recently which is the perfect warning for Klopp."
