Ahead of Sunday’s visit of Manchester United, Leicester City have proven they can go head-to-head with the very best in the Premier League, says James Maddison.

All of City’s clashes with the top flight’s ‘top-six’ have been close encounters this season while Claude Puel’s men have defeated Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton.

Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at Liverpool, meanwhile, was another example of Leicester’s ability to perform against the biggest clubs in English football.

As the visit of United approaches, Maddison, who has scored give goals for the Foxes in his maiden season at the Club, believes that should give the hosts confidence this weekend.

“I think if you look at this season, we have been very good against so called ‘top six’ sides,” he told the media on Friday.

“We’ve put in brilliant displays, got wins against Chelsea and Man City and a point at Liverpool and even the defeats have been narrow defeats.

“I think we can go into the game on Sunday and away at Tottenham [next Sunday] with a lot of confidence. We have proved we can go challenge against those top sides.”

City could have new loan signing Youri Tielemans in the matchday squad for Sunday’s clash with the Red Devils.

Maddison says it is a boost for everyone to see the Club signing players of the Belgium international’s calibre among their ranks.

He continued: “It’s brilliant. We want as much quality in the Club as possible. That only is a positive thing for me and all of the other players.

“When you see quality coming in, whether it is in your position or not, you want the team to do as well as we can.

“At the end of the season we want to be in the highest possible position we can be and if signing players like that is going to help, then I am all for it.”
