- The Academy graduate made his second Premier League start of the season against the Red Devils
The Academy graduate made his first Premier League start at King Power Stadium for the Foxes, who were edged 1-0 by Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s Red Devils after Marcus Rashford struck on nine minutes.
Barnes, a threat from the left and right wing on Filbert Way, was one of City’s industrious players on Sunday, and was naturally disheartened after his side had chances to equalise in both halves.
Barnes said: “Obviously, we are very disappointed with the result in the end,” Barnes told LCFC TV. “[It was] another slow start, which has happened a few times in the last couple of games. We know we need to improve on that.
“I thought we grew into the game really well, we had some great chances of our own but unfortunately we couldn’t get that first goal to kick us off.
“The last few games have been really tough. A lot of teams won’t pick up results against those teams. If you look at the result last week, it was positive.
“Today (Sunday), obviously, was unfortunate in the end but we will have a lot of confidence going into the game at Wembley next week.”
Barnes believes Claude Puel’s outfit will soon rediscover their ruthlessness, with the hosts going close on multiple occasions through James Maddison, Jamie Vardy, Ricardo Pereira and Rachid Ghezzal.
He continued: “I think that’s always been the core of the team, that fighting spirit. I don’t think that’s ever going to go. We looked very dangerous at times, we played some good attacking football but unfortunately that clinical edge wasn’t there.
“We know that’s going to come, we know we have got that throughout the team so it’s just about working on it on the training field and also putting it into games.”
The fixture against Manchester United saw Barnes make his second Premier League start of the 2018/19 season, having already impressed in the 4-3 reverse at Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.
The City No.19 added: “I’m really enjoying myself at the minute and have a lot of confidence on the pitch. For me it’s just, when I get my chance, about looking to make a difference and create chances and hopefully help the team get results.”
