The Foxes twice came from behind at London Stadium to earn their 48th point of the campaign, with Jamie Vardy’s 16th goal of 2018/19 being added to by a last-ditch equaliser from Barnes.
Speaking to LCFC TV at full-time, the 21-year-old Academy graduate expressed his delight to be off the mark for City, but says there is work to be done over the course of Leicester’s final three games.
“Obviously for me it was a great moment, I just got my first goal in the Premier League and so late on in the game makes it even more special,” said the midfielder, who grew up in Countesthorpe.
“You practice that in training all the time and I’ve scored a few goals like that [on loan] for West Brom so, for me, it was just about making sure the finish was right and executed and thankfully I did that.
“I think with three games left this season now, hopefully it’ll give me and the team confidence.
“Late goals are always great for the team, sometimes it feels like a win, so for us these last few games will just be about finishing the season strong and, on a personal note from me, it’ll be the same.”
Leicester initially struggled to counteract the Hammers on Saturday, but the second half introductions of Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho provided them with a greater attacking threat.
Barnes was just pleased to make an impact in the game and insists all attention is now on the visit of Arsenal to King Power Stadium on Sunday (12pm BST kick-off).
“You could see from the stands it was tough,” he added. “For the first half we weren’t quite at the races. We got together at half-time and I thought everyone reacted well.
“Coming off the bench, you’ve just got to make a positive impact on the game and for me, I thought I did that.
“It’s something that we spoke about, for us it’s just about making sure the performances are alright heading into next season.
“So for us showing the belief and the way we turned the game around was great. You saw after the game everyone was buzzing, hopefully we can take that into the next game as well.”
