The Foxes stifled their hosts’ fearsome attacking talents for 70 minutes, but a bolt out of the blue from captain Vincent Kompany edged Pep Guardiola’s men to the brink of the title.

With the eyes of the football world watching on, Leicester were impressive, particularly in the early stages, and they executed a game plan which so nearly paid off in Manchester.

Tielemans, who has scored three goals in 12 appearances for the Foxes, was one of several among Brendan Rodgers’ squad to put Manchester City’s clean sheet under threat.

“I think especially in the first half we played [well] at times, most of the time we played really good,” the expressive Belgium international told LCFC TV at full-time.

“We were compact defensively and offensively we tried to play our game to make them run. That's what they did with us [in the] second half which is why they scored a beautiful goal.

“I think they came back really strong from the dressing room and [in the] second half they were the better team and I think they deserved the win when you see the whole game.

I think it's really great if we can win the last game at home, so yes, we'll see on Sunday. We will give our all like we did in the last few games.

“But we got a chance at the end to draw, but unfortunately, we missed the chance and it's in these kinds of moments we have to be fresh and try to score.

“It's all right, I think we have to keep in our minds on that first half, where we really played well and we'll see in the next game.”

Tielemans says Leicester can take great pride from their level of performance against the reigning Premier League champions and backed his teammates to end the season on a high.

The Foxes welcome Chelsea to King Power Stadium on Sunday in their final fixture of the 2018/19 campaign (3pm BST kick-off).

The 22-year-old continued: “I’m very [proud]. Like I said, especially [in the] first half, at times [we played] really well and we have to keep going like that.

“We have one game left at home in front of our fans and we have to make the best out of it.

“I think it's really great if we can win the last game at home, so yes, we'll see on Sunday. We will give our all like we did in the last few games.”
