City’s first day back in approximately seven weeks saw them complete a morning and afternoon session, as a sixth-straight Premier League season gets underway in just over 40 days’ time.

Before then, City will contest a number of pre-season friendlies, but for Morgan, Monday was all about getting back into the swing of things after the summer break.

“It’s the first day today, so we’re just finding our feet and getting into it,” said the skipper. “It’s a tough day today, testing and making sure everyone’s come back in okay condition.

“Everyone seems to be near where they need to be. It’s been good, it’s good to dust off the cobwebs and get back at it.

“It’s good to see the boys. Everyone’s catching up and asking how the summer was and what they’ve been up to.

“Everyone’s been on their holidays and enjoyed their break and enjoyed their time, but we’re keen to get back and get back into it. We need to start preparing for the season.”

We’re together 24/7 for a week or so, so everyone really gets to know what each other is about, especially for the new players.

On Sunday, meanwhile, after a week in Leicester, Morgan and his team-mates will head to Évian-les-Bains for six days of training in the French Alps.

“It’s a chance for everybody to get to know each other a bit more,” said Morgan. “We’re together 24/7 for a week or so, so everyone really gets to know what each other is about, especially for the new players.

“It’s a good way to introduce them into the squad and let them know how we like to do our things. It’s all good, it’s all about being together and everyone being a part of what we’re trying to build.”
