Leicester City’s Under-23s will tackle the PL2 champions at Haig Avenue following a busy pre-season schedule which has included trips to Jersey, Poland and Belgium over previous weeks.

With new acquisitions Mitchell Clark, Vontae Daley-Campbell, George Hirst, Ali Reghba and Callum Hulme now settled, the Foxes will start the season aspiring to better last season’s league finish.

The Foxes ended up in 10th-place in Division 1 last season, while also reaching the quarter-finals of the Premier League International Cup, and St Ledger sees a great deal of potential in the squad.

“I’m really excited for the start of the Under-23s’ season and I’m sure the players can’t wait to get started now,” the former Republic of Ireland defender said.

“It was perhaps a disappointing second half to the season, result-wise, last time around and I think with some of the players going out on loan it just disrupted the rhythm.

“However, they earned experience on loan and it gave opportunities to the likes of Luke Thomas, who did really well, and he will be stronger this season for the experience he gained.

St Ledger spent three years at the Club between 2011 and 2014.

“It’s a tough start, especially away from home against an Everton side who won the league last season and they are always strong at Under-23s level.”

Ahead of Monday’s clash with the reigning champions, St Ledger is in no doubt that Leicester’s youngsters will head into the encounter fully prepared by the Club's coaching staff.

One player who St Ledger is most excited to see in action is Irish striker Reghba, who scored a brilliant brace of goals against Swansea’s Under-23s while on a short trial at the Club last season.

I’m really excited for the start of the Under-23s’ season and I’m sure the players can’t wait to get started now.

“I’m sure Steve Beaglehole and Ben Petty will have done the preparation to make the sure the team is organised and ready to face Everton,” St Ledger added.

“The player I’m looking forward to seeing is Ali. He came in at the end of last season and did very well. Having played in the Under-19s Euros for Ireland, I’m sure he will want to hit the ground running.”
