- The Foxes were reduced to 10 men early on in the second half following Darnell Johnson's red card
- However, the visitors battled to earn a maiden point of the season at the home of the champions
- Thomas, 22, was particularly pleased to see City's pre-season work show itself on the pitch

The Foxes, who finished 10th last season, made an assured start at Merseyrail Community Stadium, imposing themselves on the game with an effective pressing system.

However, following the break, defender Darnell Johnson received a red card, reducing City to 10 men, but the visitors dug in to seal a point against the reigning PL2 champions.

Reflecting on the curtain-raiser in Southport, Thomas, who spent last season on loan at Scunthorpe United, told LCFC TV: "Obviously all the boys are happy with the result in the end.

"Going down to 10 men made it a really hard shift so there’s a lot of tired legs in there, but coming away to Everton and getting a point against a good team is really pleasing.

We’re really pleased with getting back to form and we’ve been going on about it all week and we put it to the test today and it worked, so it’s really pleasing for the season.

"It was another good test for us. I thought in the first half we were the better team and we dominated, we pressed really high and caused them all sorts of problems.

"Then in the second half, as you said, we had to drop off a bit so we had to do both sides of the game today and I thought we did it very well."

Thomas was also pleased to see ideas developed over the summer manifesting themselves on the pitch on Monday evening as City begun the campaign in a positive fashion.

He added: "Before the game, we did lots of work and we obviously know they won the double last year and we did a lot of work on how we were going to play and how we were going to press.

"We’re really pleased with getting back to form and we’ve been going on about it all week and we put it to the test today and it worked, so it’s really pleasing for the season."
