Steve Walsh believes Leicester City's unbeaten start to the new Premier League season has 'set the tone' for a positive overall 2019/20 campaign.

- Leicester City head into the first international break of the season unbeaten in two competitions
- Foxes legend Steve Walsh says Brendan Rodgers' men have 'set the tone' for the rest of the campaign
- Walsh highlights the performances of James Maddison, Jamie Vardy, Çağlar Söyüncü and Hamza Choudhury
- Rodgers will be delighted with the nature of his side's displays so far this term, says the former defender

The Foxes sit third in the table after four matches, recently securing successive wins over Sheffield United and AFC Bournemouth, while they are also into the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Brendan Rodgers' men have conceded just four goals, scoring seven, and will next head to Old Trafford to tackle Ole Gunnar Solskjær's Manchester United on Saturday 14 September (3pm BST kick-off).

Foxes icon Walsh, who won two promotions and enjoyed a duo of League Cup success at the Football Club, has watched on proudly as City lay down a marker to better last season's finish this term.

Walsh remains one of the most popular players to ever pull on a Leicester shirt.

"It’s been a terrific start," the former Leicester captain said. "Standout players for me so far are [James] Maddison, [Jamie] Vardy, and [Çağlar] Söyüncü. They’ve been brilliant for us this season.

"Söyüncü has slipped into that defence quite nicely and established a settled partnership at the back with Jonny Evans and they are looking really solid at the moment.

"Special mention as well to Hamza Choudhury, who’s been an integral part of what’s been a really good start from Leicester to the new season."

The nature of City's performances has also pleased Walsh, who says Rodgers' structured approach to building a defensively sound and potent attacking force is developing nicely.

They’ll want to stay on that roll, but they’ll be confident going into that Manchester United game and I’m sure they are capable of that.

Leicester have had to defend stoically this season, notably early on at Chelsea and in the latter moments at Sheffield United, while they expressed themselves in an attacking sense against the Cherries.

"They’ve played some fantastic, really positive football," Walsh added. "We saw on Saturday (vs. Bournemouth) how good Vardy can be for the team, his relentlessness and his drive was incredible.

"That finish for his first goal was absolutely top-class. It seems like he can be that man for Leicester again to really drive them on throughout the season.

"It’s always vital you get a good start to a season. I believe that if you get the right start and you get points on the board early on, it really sets the tone for the season to come.

"This is what we’re seeing now. The international break has probably come too soon after back-to-back wins in the league and progression in the League Cup.

"They’ll want to stay on that roll, but they’ll be confident going into that Manchester United game and I’m sure they are capable of getting a result there.

"The style of play has been brilliant, it’s really positive for Brendan going forward. He'll see a lot to work on, but a lot to be pleased with as well from the opening weeks of the season."
