"So, it is a very, very strong league and, in the last few games, we’ve more than matched Liverpool. We’ve more than matched Chelsea and Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

"We played really well but we threw away points because we didn’t manage the game until the end and, in respect of the Arsenal game, we didn’t start the second half like we started the first half."

However, Beaglehole is confident that City's Under-23s will improve and, after seeing several of them train with the first team last week, he is backing them to deliver a performance at Spurs.

"It is a learning situation for the group and we’ve talked a lot about it so that’s been the bulk of our work," he continued, speaking at the Club's Belvoir Drive training ground.

"We've been looking at what we can improve on, moving players up, giving them exposure to the first team group.

"I think everybody is certainly enjoying it, as you’ve seen this morning. There’s a great spirit here."
