Leicester City Women continued their Continental Tyres League Cup campaign with an 11-1 defeat by Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village on Thursday night.

After losses to Manchester City and Birmingham City in the competition, Jonathan Morgan’s side were heavily beaten in Manchester in their latest outing.

Jess Sigsworth made it 1-0 inside the opening minute before Lizzie Arnot doubled her outfit’s advantage on seven minutes.

A first-half hat-trick for Ella Toone and a strike from Kirsty Smith then followed and while Libby Smith pulled one back for Leicester before the interval, Manchester United headed into the break with a 6-1 advantage.

Five more goals arrived in the second half, too, with Toone scoring twice, and Jane Ross, Hayley Ladd and Lauren James also finding the back of the net.

Next up for Leicester City Women is an FA Women’s Championship clash with Coventry United on Sunday 24 November at Farley Way Stadium.
