- The 20-year-old striker says he will work on becoming even more clinical

The Foxes made it six wins from six games in all competitions as Hirst, Josh Eppiah, Admiral Muskwe and George Thomas all netted during the first half at Holmes Park.

Now just three points away from the summit in Premier League 2 Division 1, City's youngsters have rapidly climbed the standings over previous weeks, while also impressing in the Leasing.com Trophy.

Reflecting on Monday's success over the Rams, another side who have performed excellently this term, Hirst revealed how a commitment to playing high-tempo football is serving Leicester well.

"We’ve come into the game knowing they’re a strong side and to beat them 4-1 at home and carry on the run of form that we’ve been on, it’s brilliant for the lads," he told LCFC TV.

"We’re a high tempo team and if we’re not at that tempo then that’s when we drop points, we’ve got to be at that tempo from minute one to minute 90.

"When we are, you see results like tonight and we’ve come away with a 4-1 win against the team who are second in the league and playing really well at the moment."

With strikers Eppiah and Muskwe also finding the net in Whetstone and with Ali Reghba returning from injury, Hirst says competition for places is rife within the Club's Under-23s squad.

"It’s good, competition is competition, everyone wants to be in that starting XI," the 20-year-old forward continued.

"There’s only 11 places but it stops complacency. All the lads know from minute one in training, the warm up, you’ve got to be on the ball.

"If you’re not, there’s someone else breathing down your neck, trying to take your shirt off you so it can only be a good thing.

"Obviously it’s nice to get a foal tonight, it’s not as good as two or three but it’s something for me to work on personally, just being a little bit calmer and more clinical in those situations.

"I want to play at the top level and you get limited chances so if you get that one chance in a game, you’ve got to stick it away. Personally, that’s just something for me to work on."
