Goals in each half handed Leicester City Women their second triumph of the 2019/20 FA Women’s Championship season against Blackburn Rovers Ladies on Sunday at Farley Way Stadium.

After an even opening 20 minutes, a free-kick won by Lachante Paul was taken by Annabel Blanchard, who struck the woodwork midway through the first half, while a triple save from Demi Lambourne prevented the visiting side from going in front.

A sustained spell of pressure from Leicester City then led to an opening goal, as Blackburn’s Ellie Steward turned a rebounded effort from Hayley James into her own net with six minutes of the first half to play.

During the second 45 minutes, Paige Bailey-Gayle was denied by Fran Stenson, before she set up Paul shortly after, but the forward couldn’t hit the target with 19 minutes to go.

A minute later, though, the Foxes doubled their advantage through Paul, who burst through before firing into the bottom corner of the net.

After moving up to eighth in the FA Women’s Championship standings, City are next in action against Aston Villa Women on Saturday 7 December at Farley Way Stadium (7:30pm GMT kick-off).
