Leicester reached the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round after Tom Pearce’s own goal and a strike from Harvey Barnes on Filbert Way.
While Rodgers was happy with City’s progression, he believes they must work on certain aspects of their play if they are to produce consistent results.
“I think that was the key for us,” said Rodgers of City’s professionalism. “We were also very process-driven and we looked to play well also in our performance.
“I didn’t think we played particularly well, to be honest. I thought it was too bitty and we didn’t really control the game as much as what we would like.
“However, we had moments of quality that won us the game, and like I say, the players gave everything.
“They gave their very best in the game, which they always do – they’re very committed. That was enough for us to get us the result.”
The visiting outfit had a goal of their own ruled out by VAR for offside in the build-up, and Rodgers praised the Championship side’s efforts in the third round tie.
“Wigan are a good side,” he continued. “They’ve picked up recently in the last five or six games.
“You can see their technical quality and their movement is good, they’ve got some fast players.
“It was always going to be a test for us, especially with their recent history in the cup, but we got the job done and that was important.
“I’m pleased for the players, but we have to demand that we’re better in our performance, and play better.”
Finally, Rodgers provided an update on the fitness of Wes Morgan and Filip Benković, who were both forced off during the tie.
"Wes looks like he’s maybe torn his groin, so we have to confirm that, but that was the initial diagnosis of that," said Rodgers. "Filip had a sore knee, so again, we’ll see how that is."
