Norwich earned all three Premier League points via an effort from Jamal Lewis, despite the Foxes having a goal of their own disallowed as Kelechi Iheanacho’s 50th-minute effort was ruled out by VAR for handball.
Northern Irishman Rodgers believes City were unfortunate to return to Leicester empty-handed, but knows they must take their chance if they are to regain their Premier League form.
“[We’re] naturally disappointed,” Rodgers told LCFC TV. “I don’t think we deserved to lose the game. However, we didn’t show enough quality in the final third of the pitch to make the breakthrough.
“We had enough attempts on goal. We had 19 shots, but only four on target, so that tells you that little bit of quality in the final third wasn’t quite there.
“Then, we are disappointed with the goal we concede because full-backs should never be in that much free space to get his (Jamal Lewis) strike in. [It’s a] great strike through the bodies into the corner, but we shouldn’t concede a goal like that.
“The VAR goal was disappointing because I thought we were deserving of that at that stage of the game. I’m not sure what the ruling is, but somehow it was disallowed even though both players unintentionally handballed [it]. It didn’t work for us.”
City thought they had taken the lead through Iheanacho until VAR chalked off the effort, and Rodgers says that affected his side’s fluency in Norfolk.
Rodgers added: “I think you can see from their players that they weren’t quite expecting it either and that would have put us in a great position and a deserving position in the game.
“We had good rhythm at that point. It’s a fantastic finish and we then could then go and play with that confidence, but it didn’t come, so there’s nothing we can do.”
