But once Callum Wright levelled the scores and George Hirst converted a first-half penalty, City were in full control of the game.

Conor Tee added a third in stoppage time as the Foxes remain second in the Premier League 2 Division 1 table.

Speaking live on air, as part of LCFC TV's coverage of the Club's youngsters throughout 2019/20, Scowcroft was pleased with the manner of victory and several individual performances...

A competitive game

City have done the league double over Southampton in PL2.

James Scowcroft said: “It was an excellent first-half. Both teams deserve a lot of credit for how they approached the game, their application. We saw a yellow card, a lot of challenges were going in. Both teams came out very strongly, two fully committed sets of players and I think Leicester just about shaded it [in the first-half]. They showed a good desire to go out and win the game, Harry Lewis kept Southampton in the game. It was an excellent three points for Leicester, who throughly deserve it in the end.”

Wright’s well-taken goal

The attacking midfield impressed once again in the win over the Saints.

James Scowcroft said: “It looks like one straight off the training ground, it’s excellent. They line-up and are expecting it to go to the far post but it’s whipped in and Callum Wright just comes off the goalkeeper, gets across his man at the near post and it’s a simple finish on his right foot. Leicester deserved that. It was just the goal they needed at that time to bounce back quickly.”

Hirst’s penalty prowess

The Foxes forward tucked home his 13th goal of the season from the spot.

James Scowcroft said: “He's very, very confident, he was never going to miss that. George Hirst, I just loved the way he picked the ball up straight away, put it down on the spot, there was no doubt, no indecision at all. It’s an excellent penalty, a good clean strike right into the corner. And it was his through ball that really made it.”

High standards maintained

City sit in second place in Premier League 2 with four games to go.

James Scowcroft said: “I think Leicester at this level set their standards very high. Any player that comes in has to step up. That’s what you’re looking for at Under-23s football."

A Man of the Match display

George Hirst was named Man of the Match by James Scowcroft on Monday night.

James Scowcroft said: “He’s [Hirst] battled away up there alone all night and scored the all important penalty. He’s been impressive, led the line very well and in and around the box he’s very sharp. When most forwards would look to cross, he’s got that mentality to try and find the bottom corner. Leicester have got a very good no.9 in their ranks in George Hirst.”

Tee takes his chance

Conor Tee wrapped up the scoring in added time.

James Scowcroft said: “Fair play to the youngster to come on here, he pressures the ball really well, wins it back, finds a lovely finish and that’s the end of the game.”
