On this day (3 June) five years ago, Leicester City completed the signing of Austrian left-back Christian Fuchs after he left German Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04.

Fuchs arrived at King Power Stadium with a proven pedigree on the continent having amassed 393 appearances in Austrian and German football, including 31 outings in European competitions.

Indeed, just months before making the switch to the East Midlands, the then Austria captain netted for Schalke against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu in the UEFA Champions League's Round of 16.

It was clear that City had completed the signing of an experienced and talented defender, but the Blue Army waited to see if Fuchs could fit into new manager Claudio Ranieri's system.

The Austrian initially signed a three-year contract at the Club in 2015.

As it turned out, it took some time for the former Wiener Neustadt, SV Mattersburg, VfL Bochum, Mainz 05 and Schalke full-back to cement his place in the Italian's starting XI during the 2015/16 season.

However, once he'd been given the opportunity to shine, Fuchs become an irrepressible presence in the dressing room, while also later establishing himself as a key man in City's historic Premier League triumph.

To mark five years of Fuchs' time as Fox, here's five moments to savour from the Club's popular No.28...

An iconic no-look pass

Fuchs played a key role in one of the most famous goals ever scored by a Leicester player.

The eyes of the footballing world were honed in on King Power Stadium on Saturday 28 November, 2015 as Jamie Vardy approached an incredible 11 consecutive goalscoring appearances for the Foxes in the Premier League. There was tension in the air on Filbert Way as the Blue Army waited to see if Vardy could break Ruud van Nistelrooy's record against the Dutchman's former club. It came in the 24th minute as goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel recycled a corner kick to the right flank and, strangely for a left-back, it was Fuchs who collected it. His no-look pass dumbfounded Red Devils full-back Matteo Darmian and allowed Vardy to run on David de Gea and beat the Spaniard to write his name into the history books.

A European bow for the Foxes

Full-time delight for Fuchs and his team-mates at the end of a European opener in Bruges.

Fuchs' experience in Europe will have been among his most attractive attributes when the Club considered securing his services in the summer of 2015. However, neither Fuchs nor City's backroom team would have thought he would be able to add to his continental appearance tally quite so soon for Leicester. Following an unlikely Premier League title win in May, the Foxes headed to Belgium on Wednesday 14 September, 2016 to embark on what would become an intrepid tour of Europe in the UEFA Champions League. Fuchs' know-how in the competition would undoubtedly have been a calming influence for Ranieri's side at the Jan Breydel Stadium as Leicester ran out as comfortable 3-0 victors over Club Brugge on their maiden Champions League outing.

Off the mark on Filbert Way

Up and running in the scoring stakes with a brilliant effort against Palace.

It may have taken over a year for Fuchs to score his first goal for the Foxes, but his effort against Crystal Palace on Saturday 22 October, 2016 was worth the wait. Despite winning all three of their opening group stage fixtures in the UEFA Champions League, City's form in the Premier League was inconsistent in the early weeks of the 2016/17 campaign. After that initial frustration came a comprehensive success over the Eagles, however, and Fuchs was in the thick of the action. Ahmed Musa and Shinji Okazaki had got City off to a commanding start on Filbert Way and a sprinkle of stardust came in the 80th minute from Fuchs as the Austrian sent a stunning half-volley flying beyond visiting 'keeper Steve Mandanda to wrap up a 3-1 victory.

City's 2018/19 Goal of the Season

Another moment of brilliance from Fuchs in the Carabao Cup.

While Fuchs may not score many in blue, his strikes are nonetheless usually very special indeed. That trend continued on Tuesday 28 August, 2018 as Claude Puel's Foxes entertained Fleetwood Town at King Power Stadium in the second round of the Carabao Cup. City were naturally the favourites and a dominant performance from the hosts got off to a flier as Fuchs sent another half-volley - from well outside the area - soaring back across goal and into the top corner in just the eighth minute. Vicente Iborra and Kelechi Iheanacho added their names to the scoresheet for the Foxes, while another belter from new signing Rachid Ghezzal added a touch of gloss to the scoreline in a 4-0 rout for Leicester on Filbert Way.

A key man today

The Austrian has played a prominent role in one of the best top-flight seasons for City in recent times.

Now 34 years of age, Fuchs has continued to be an important presence in Brendan Rodgers' squad throughout the 2019/20 Premier League season. As well as featuring prominently in runs to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and quarter-finals of the Emirates FA Cup, the Austrian has also been central to several memorable top-flight successes. Whether it be sealing an important point at Chelsea, playing a prominent role in Harvey Barnes' breath-taking winner at Sheffield United, helping City secure a seventh consecutive Premier League win in December, or starring in consecutive successes over West Ham United and Newcastle Uniter over the New Year period, Fuchs has never let his manager down during a memorable season to date for the Foxes.
