- The City On The Sofa panel react to Leicester City’s 2-1 loss to Everton
- Brendan Rodgers’ side were beaten by two early goals at Goodison Park
- Kelechi Iheanacho was on the scoresheet for the Foxes
- Tony Cottee, Steve Walsh and Matt Elliott reflect on the defeat
Watching along live back at King Power Stadium in the LCFC TV studio, the Foxes legends conversed about City’s narrow loss on Merseyside.
Richarlison opened the scoring for the hosts after just 10 minutes before Gylfi Sigurðsson converted a penalty awarded by VAR following Wilfred Ndidi’s handball.
Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench to halve the deficit with his ninth goal of the season in all competitions, but Everton bolstered their defence and held on for all three points.
Frustrated Foxes
Steve Walsh said: “It would say it’s a feeling of frustration now. Brendan [Rodgers], as well, will be frustrated with the result and not getting back into the game. He’s done everything from a manager’s point of view that you could do. Everton defended very deep, but they defended well and it was one-way traffic in the end.”
Everton dealt with the situation
Matt Elliott said: “Leicester had a few chances in that second half, but Carlo Ancelotti dealt with the situation and it was a big blow. Despite being buoyed by the general performance, Brendan Rodgers will know there’s still quite a few things that need to be worked on.”
A missed opportunity
Tony Cottee said: “It was a good opportunity for Leicester because if you look at the overall aspects, they were the better team. Their final ball wasn’t quite there again. Everton’s first goal was very good, but the rest of the time, you felt like Leicester dominated possession and had efforts on goal.”
Impactful substitutes
Steve Walsh said: “Everton couldn’t have defended any better. [Michael] Keane and [Mason] Holgate defended well at the back. I thought James Maddison and Kelechi Iheanacho turned the game in our favour, and it’s still in our hands.”
Ancelotti’s tweaks
Tony Cottee said: “For the first 20 mins of that second half, there was total dominance from Leicester. There looked like there would only be one team that would win the game, but Carlo Ancelotti tweaked his team and that proved to be vital for Everton. They went with three centre-halves, bringing Yerry Mina on, and it made it difficult for Leicester.”
All to play for
Matt Elliott said: “I’m not worried about performances, to be honest. It’s crunch time and it’s all to play for. They are in pole position despite recent results and form, but they need to be strong and take it for what it is. This final stage of the season has been spoken about, but there’s six games to go and it’s all to play for.”
