- LCFC Women travel to Proact Stadium to take on Sheffield United this weekend
- The Foxes defeated Blackburn Rovers 3-0 in their opening game last Sunday
- Manager Jonathan Morgan says that result was a welcome start to the season
- He believes there is still more to come from the new-look squad as they continue to improve
A 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers kicked off Leicester's FA Women's Championship campaign last weekend and Morgan admitted it was a big boost to start the season in a positive manner.
He will continue to demand the highest level possible from the City players, as they go in search of a second successive victory at Proact Stadium.
"[It was] a massive boost for the girls," Morgan told LCFC TV earlier this week. "Like I said before the game on Sunday, there was a high amount of anxiety.
"It was a game that I think we were expected to win and I think the way Blackburn set up sort of showed that. I think they did fantastically well for 70 minutes of the game.
"They were disciplined and they kept their shape. But, from our point of view, we were happy with the 3-0, happy with a clean sheet.
"But, like I said before, we know that was just the first game, the first competitive game, and we know there's such a long way for us to go this season.
"More importantly, there's such a long way for us to improve still which, to me, is a fantastic place to be and to know that you've won 3-0, and you want to be improving."
Preparations for Sunday's fixture have been going well, with the Foxes knowing they will come up against tough opponents, who, despite a change of manager over the summer, are well versed in winning games in this division.
Morgan continued: "We came back into training, just a nice light session, focused on we want to focus on for Sheffield. We've obviously gone through the footage and we know what we're looking forward to, from that point of view. We're just really getting the girls mentally ready for the challenge ahead.
"Sheffield are very, very tough team, [they had a] good start to the season themselves, [with a] 4-1 victory.
"We just want the girls to be aware of that and to make sure they know that they're going to come at us this week and you could say that, based on their opening day performance, they're probably favourites for the game.
"[They are] an aggressive, good footballing side. They look to play forward, and they've got their DNA that was implemented through Carla Ward.
"She did a fantastic job with them and you can definitely see that her style was still there to move forward into the season and obviously it's a great place for Neil [Redfearn] to pick up on. I'm expecting the same Sheffield, that never say die attitude, and that will always be there to push them on."
Three of City's' summer recruits were signed from United - defender Sam Tierney, midfielder Sophie Barker and forward Liv Fergusson - but Morgan knows his players will be professional once they cross the white line on Sunday.
"I think we try not to talk about it too much," he added. "Obviously, I think, privately, they're thinking about it and going back to see their friends and stuff.
"But they're professionals and they know that they're just there to do a job. They won't let the occasion get the better of them from that point of view.
"I think more than anything they're just excited to go into the game, really, just to really see who's going to get the bragging rights by the end of the 90 minutes."
