Goals from Richarlison and Mason Holgate, either side of half-time, sealed victory for Carlo Ancelotti's Toffees, bringing to an end a three-game winning run in all competitions for City.
Barnes admitted the Foxes are disappointed with several aspects of their performance on Filbert Way against the Merseyside outfit and vowed to work, collectively, to eradicate those problems in future.
"It's a disappointing night for us," he told LCFC TV. "We found it difficult to create chances for ourselves, I think. [We] conceded two sloppy goals, two preventable goals anyway, which we know that we could keep out normally.
"[We] just give ourselves too much of a challenge to get back in the game. I think in the Premier League, the first goal is always so important.
"It's always vital to get that, especially at home for us. We want to set the standard and come out flying, so that was disappointing, and then the second goal... we know set pieces are something we definitely need to work on.
"We've been poor with them this season, so it's something we've already spoken about and we need to keep working on that."
Barnes was reluctant to use the recent fixture congestion as an excuse for Wednesday's result, adding that everyone in the dressing room is aware that they can reach higher performance levels.
"It's our job, though, isn't it?" he replied when asked about the schedule. "It's what we have to do. It's a busy period around Christmas, always. The manager always picks a team that he feels is fresh and ready to go.
"For us, as players, it's [about] going out there, doing our job, and doing the best that we can. Tonight, we fell short.
"We know we can do better. We know we can be more clinical in the final third and create more chances, so it's disappointing for us."
Leicester head to the capital on Sunday to tackle Jose Mourinho's in-form Tottenham Hotspur and the 23-year-old says all focus know shifts to earning a positive result there.
"We need to reset," he added. "[We will] look at the points tonight which we can improve on and make sure we're fully focused on that.
"We'll be going there wanting to take three points and keep that momentum going for ourselves."
