City’s three-game winning run came to an end on Saturday when Pep Guardiola’s Premier League leaders registered a 2-0 success at King Power Stadium.

The Citizens dominated possession in the first half, and then went on to seal the points via goals from Benjamin Mendy and Gabriel Jesus.

“It’s a very good team,” Pérez reflected. “They dominate the ball really, really well. We stuck to our plan, but I think the result at the end, they didn’t create many chances and they were quite frustrated at some points.

“They could hardly get through us, through the middle, but a couple of little details, little mistakes can make the difference against a very good team.

“So, we paid for it and it’s a shame because we were doing quite well. We knew we were going to have our chances, but at the end, they were better than us in terms of chances, and they got the win.”

Pérez believes City’s current form, and their position in the Premier League table, has earned them deserved recognition across football.

“We’ve done well enough, we’ve won enough games now to be recognised as a very good team, a top team, so no one should be surprised if we’re in the situation that we are,” he added.

“Before the game, you can tell anyone can win this game. That means a lot, that means we’ve come very far and we’re in a great position.”
