- Seventy-five participants joined Leicester City in the Community at three school sites for the final week of Easter half-term
- Young people took part in an array of activities including basketball, football, gardening and cooking
- As well as continuing to teach young people cooking skills, LCitC staff aimed to boost wellbeing ahead of the new school term
- The Cedars Academy has bought into the Premier League Inspires programme
Partnering with Lionheart Academies Trust schools, The Martin High School and The Cedars Academy - as well as Thomas Estley Community College – Leicester City in the Community has continued to provide valuable cooking expertise to young people across Leicestershire.
Seventy-five young people attended the week-long camp across the three secondary school sites, taking part in basketball, football and mindfulness workshops, as well as cooking.
The purpose of the Easter programme is to enable young people to have a smooth transition back into school life and normality as national restrictions continue to ease.
As well as this, Leicester City in the Community will continue to provide culinary skills to help families avoid food poverty.
Speaking this month, Senior Kicks Coordinator, Paul Blagrove, discussed why Leicester City in the Community are continuing to provide cooking opportunities in their delivery: “We are working together to provide up to 75 young people opportunities to get involved in positive activities.
“I think just little bits of education around cooking your own dishes at home, saving money instead of going out into restaurants, it is important that they can pick up those tips we are trying to give them.”
The Cedars Academy has recently signed up to the Premier League Inspires programme and has been heavily involved with Leicester City in the Community throughout the past year.
And The Cedars Academy Executive Principal, Laura Sanchez, was delighted to welcome Leicester City in the Community into the Birstall school.
“We have been very lucky to work with Leicester City in the Community in partnership to organise the sessions that are happening this week,” she said.
“This year we started working with the Inspires coaches, both here at The Cedars Academy and also at The Martin High School in Anstey, which has been an invaluable resource.
“I think after the year that we have all had, having somebody that is not a teacher able to talk to our young people is absolutely invaluable.”
Leicester City in the Community has launched Kicks sessions for the rest of the school year, taking place in Hinckley, St Matthews, Leicester City Centre, Beaumont Leys and Braunstone.
