The Foxes registered their first away win against the Red Devils in over two decades after strikes from defenders Thomas and Çağlar Söyüncü came either side of Mason Greenwood’s leveller.

The success sees City move eight points clear of fifth place, and Thomas was naturally thrilled to help his boyhood club to a famous and important result.

“Unbelievable!” Thomas told LCFC TV. “We’re all buzzing in there. Coming to Old Trafford, there's no better feeling than to play here, so to come away with three points is even better and obviously to get my first [Premier League] goal, I’m over the moon!

“Obviously, coming to Old Trafford, it’s one of the best stadiums in the world, so to get a goal here is unbelievable and I don’t think I have scored a better goal than that to be perfectly honest! I don’t score a lot!

“I felt like I was coming onto the ball and he (Jamie Vardy) was coming back towards it, so I felt, if I get onto this, I've got more of a chance of scoring then he did at the time, so I'm glad he listened and I’ve gladly put it in the top corner.”

Assessing how the match unfolded, Thomas felt City’s positive approach at the beginning of both halves was vital to the overall result.

“I feel in the first half, we came out bright and the first 20 minutes was very good,” he said. “We had a little 10-minute period where we’ve let them get a hold of the ball and that's where they've scored.

“The gaffer was saying at half-time that we've got to come out and show that aggression that we showed in the first 20 [minutes] again and I felt like we did that.

"And then, obviously, Çağs (Çağlar Söyüncü) comes up at the corner and puts it straight into the top corner, brilliant!

As a fan… we're doing so well at the minute, so I'm sure all the fans are proud of us out there and hopefully we're going to continue to please them.

“For a defender, there’s no better feeling than scoring a goal…  we don't get many do we, so when you get one it's a great feeling.”

More memories could be made on Saturday, when City head to Wembley Stadium to contest their first FA Cup Final in over half a century – something that as a Foxes fan himself, Thomas will cherish, should be be involved.

He said: “We’re now looking forward to Saturday. It's a massive win today, but we’ve got a big game and we’ve got to get back and get recovery in and look at Saturday.

“It's massive for the Club and, for myself, hopefully I get the chance to get on the pitch at one point, but the Club… we've [not been there for 52 years], so going there on Saturday, we're going to give our all and hopefully we can come away with a result.

“As a fan… we're doing so well at the minute, so I'm sure all the fans are proud of us out there and hopefully we're going to continue to please them.”
