Leicester City in the Community are expanding their football development offer to allow more primary school pupils to learn and savour the game of football.

Building on the pre-existing Skills Centres sessions run in the evening and football camps during the school holidays, the Club’s charitable arm now includes school-time sessions.

Designed for primary schools, the new offer will be ready to take place at the start of the new school year in September and will have three main aims.

They are to; enhance and support PE delivery in schools in the city and county, increase girl participation and provide gifted and talented children the opportunity to continue their development in school.

The new football development schools offer will involve a Leicester City in the Community FA-licensed coach spending an afternoon with school pupils, whilst also including lunchtime and after-school activation.

FA licensed coaches from Leicester City in the Community deliver the sessions to primary school children.

The after-school and lunchtime clubs will have elements of Skills Centres, with children taking part in ball work to develop their ability.

Ed Garnett, Leicester City in the Community’s Football Development Coordinator, said: “Our curricular provision will follow national curriculum guidelines and can be used as a PPA (planning, preparation and assessment) cover for schools who might need extra support.

“It can also be used as a teacher CPD. In that instance, teachers will come out with our member of staff, and we will help up-skill them in their PE delivery.

“Our sessions start in the new school year, so if schools would like to join the exciting new programme, all they need to do is email myself and we will get something sorted!”
