Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers says maximum concentration is required from the Foxes in Saturday's Premier League encounter with champions Manchester City.

Speaking inside the King Power Centre at LCFC Training Ground in Seagrave, the Northern Irishman discussed a range of topics – pointing to the fearsome quality at counterpart Pep Guardiola's disposal and Leicester's own attacking abilities – as matchday four looms in the 2021/22 campaign.

Man City are reigning Premier League champions, winners of the Carabao Cup for four successive seasons and were narrowly denied a maiden UEFA Champions League title last term in the showpiece. Leicester's recent record against the Citizens, however, is encouraging.

As well as the FA Community Shield victory at Wembley last month, the Foxes also left Etihad Stadium with an incredible 5-2 win early on last season, but were beaten 2-0 on Filbert Way in the reverse fixture. Concentration will be key, Rodgers believes, to enjoying another memorable success.

"They’re an incredible team of players and, as I’ve always said, they’ve got one of the world’s best managers," the 48-year-old commented this week. "It’s always a huge challenge when you play against Manchester City. This will be no different. They play the best positioning game in the world.

"The level of technique, the intensity and the hunger which they play with is why they’ve been so successful under Pep over this last number of years. You know you have to be fully concentrated.

Like playing against any top opponent, you need to defend well. You need to play well when you have the ball. You need a bit of luck and you need to take your opportunities. All of that combined, you hope, can fall for you on the day.

"You have to stay in the game and then, when you have the ball, you may be restricted in terms of your percentage of possession, no matter how good you are on the ball, but then when you have it, it’s about having that confidence to play and exploit any spaces that are there.

"It’s a team you have to have full concentration against. They’ve got quality all over the field and their build-up play... how they prepare the game through the midfield. Then they’ve got really special talents at the top end of the field that can make the difference.

"Like playing against any top opponent, you need to defend well. You need to play well when you have the ball. You need a bit of luck and you need to take your opportunities. All of that combined, you hope, can fall for you on the day."

Man City started the season with a rare loss at Tottenham Hotspur but recovered with consecutive 5-0 triumphs over Norwich City and Arsenal at home. For Rodgers, that's a sign that the champions are starting to hit their highest levels, elevating the nature of the challenge they could bring on Saturday.

"You go into every game and you can only prepare for it and hope that you can play well," he continued. "You know you’re going to have to play well to get a result against Manchester City.

New recruit Ademola Lookman in training in Seagrave earlier this week.

"You’ve seen how good they’ve been in their last few games, finding their rhythm and their connection as a team, so you know there’s a lot of things that need to go for you when you play against a team of that quality.

"We’re at home, we’re looking forward to being back together again, the supporters are in the stadium as well, so that will be a huge boost for us. It’s just so important that you stay in the game against a team like Manchester City and hopefully we can put in a good performance and get a good result."

Whether it occurs at the weekend or deeper into the campaign, Ademola Lookman is set to make his debut for the Club in the coming weeks after agreeing a season-long loan deal from RB Leipzig. The former Everton winger can bring a real threat to Leicester's side, Rodgers believes.

"I’m really excited about working with Ade," the Foxes manager explained. "He’s a top, top talent. I wanted to take him to Celtic when he was at Charlton. I was aware of him when he was 15 or 16 and the talent he is. I just think he has all the tools. He’s got great dribbling ability.

"Physically, he’s good. He’s got a good view of the game. He’s very honest in his game, he works so hard. He’s got an eye for a goal and my hope is that this environment that he comes into will give him that stability to shine.

"He’s a great man, he’s still very young, and if he can find a home here, I’ve got absolutely no doubt the Leicester City supporters will be really excited by him when he plays. It’s important for us, in our squad, to have that talent that we can bring into the game or start the game.

"He’s definitely got big, big ability and we hope our team structure will allow that to flourish."
