The young Lionesses, coached by Lydia Bedford, kicked off their Women’s Under-17 European Championship qualifiers with a trio of matches in Poland, aiming to progress into the 2022 finals, which will be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The 16-year-old played 90 minutes in all three fixtures, starting with a 2-0 reverse against Russia at Stadion Miejski on Monday 4 October, when a second-half double from substitute midfielder Iana Svistunova secured three group stage points for the Russians.
England enjoyed more success in their second League A Group 5 match versus Belgium on Thursday 7 October, triumphing 1-0 thanks to Virginia Lackey’s 29th-minute strike at Bydgoszcz Stadium.
After helping the young Lionesses to keep a first clean sheet of the campaign, Smith captained her national side against hosts Poland, as England slipped to a 2-0 defeat.
Goals from Amelia Kowalczyk and Maja Kuleczka made the difference back at Bydgoszcz Stadium to leave England third in the four-team pool, with three points from three games.
Smith, who made her full LCFC Women debut in last month’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup fixture against Manchester City, will return to training at Belvoir Drive ahead of the Foxes' Continental League Cup clash with Everton on Wednesday 3 November.
