Southampton’s Jan Bednarek opened the scoring just three minutes into the contest before Evans was on hand to send home City’s equaliser midway through the first half.
The Saints then regained their lead courtesy of Ché Adams and held that advantage until four minutes after the break when another piece of James Maddison brilliance levelled the scores.
That’s how it stayed on the south coast, with Evans providing his thoughts on a full-throttle encounter that could have swung either way in the closing stages.
“It was physically very tough,” the defender told LCFC TV in his post-match assessment of proceedings on Wednesday evening. “Southampton pressed well. They get the ball forward early and they have got lots of high energy.
“I think we were all exhausted by the end of the game. I think we could tell during the game, especially during the second half, that I’m sure it was a good game to watch.”
The draw – Leicester’s fourth of the campaign – moves the Foxes up to eighth in the Premier League standings, and the centre-back values it as a good point, despite having arrived with the intention of sealing maximum points to back up Sunday’s victory over Watford.
“Before the game, you are always coming here and wanting three points,” the 33-year-old continued. “I think that’s our mindset, it’s been our mindset for a couple of years now and we want to be at that level where we’re coming away dominating games and winning games.
“I think the way the game panned out, having to come from behind twice, it’s something that’s not ideal but we showed good character I suppose in the second half. There were some harsh words at half-time and we knew that we had to respond.”
Evans’ maiden goal of the campaign helped ensure that City made it three games unbeaten across all competitions when he fired the ball past Alex McCarthy after the Southampton shot-stopper had kept out Wilfred Ndidi’s initial effort.
“It was a second or third phase from a set piece,” the Northern Irishman recalled. “And I think Wilfred [Ndidi] hit the shot and I just managed to turn around and try and get it between the goalposts and the ball has fallen to me nicely.”
