Leicester City 'lost too many battles' in Sunday's 2-1 Premier League loss to Everton at King Power Stadium, says manager Brendan Rodgers.

- Leicester City were beaten 2-1 by Everton at King Power Stadium on Sunday
- Patson Daka found the net in between efforts from Vitaliy Mykolenko and Mason Holgate for the Toffees
- Manager Brendan Rodgers was frustrated with elements of the performance of his side

Vitaliy Mykolenko and Mason Holgate netted either side of Patson Daka's 11th goal of the season during the first half on Filbert Way. City pushed for a leveller in the second period but were rebuffed by solid Toffees defending and impressive saves by Jordan Pickford.

Rodgers, though, was disappointed with the performance as well as the result. Speaking afterwards, the Northern Irishman highlighted the series of events which led to both of Everton's goals, isolating where Leicester must do better if they are to improve their defensive set-piece record.

"It’s a very disappointing result for us," the Foxes manager told LCFC TV at full-time. "For the first goal, even though it’s a great finish, it comes from a throw-in. Obviously, we get ourselves back into the game, but we gave away [a goal] from a corner.

"We changed the team today, we put in extra height by playing three centre-backs, but we were just lacking concentration and determination in that static moment. It’s really been the story of the season.

I also felt we never had the quality at the top end of the field in order to break their resistance. We arrived into the areas, I think we arrived into the final third on many occasions in the game, and then it’s just that bit of quality to break them down.

"We undo a lot of good work, put ourselves under pressure, and then we fail to show the quality to come back into the game. It’s very, very disappointing. All the stats and analysis of the game will show that we dominated it, but you need to then have quality.

"I also felt we never had the quality at the top end of the field in order to break their resistance. I think we arrived into the final third on many occasions in the game, and then it’s just that bit of quality to break them down."

Rodgers also revealed that he spoke his players after the game on Sunday, pointing to City's performance in Rome on Thursday also. The Club's UEFA Europa Conference League journey ended at the semi-finals stage after a 2-1 aggregate reverse against the Italian side.

"I don’t normally say a great deal after the game but we had to there because I need to get the thoughts of the players and what they’re thinking," he added. "We weren’t good enough in the semi-final. We had the ball, but we lacked creativity and lacked that bit of quality over those two games.

"It’s disappointing, but you can’t complain. This was another game and you’ve got to go and give your best and pick yourself up again. Even though we had lots of endeavour and fight, we lost too many battles today. That ultimately cost us."

We had lots of attacking players on there. Especially at 2-1, with the final half-hour to go, we just couldn’t break them down.

While Daka's strike pleased Rodgers, the former Liverpool and Celtic manager was frustrated to see his side not add more goals against Frank Lampard's visitors. One factor in that was the performance of Pickford in goal for the Merseysiders, but he believes more could have been done in the final third.

"He read it well and finished it really well," the 49-year-old said of Daka's goal. "He had time against a really good ‘keeper. He finished it well and that should steady us in the game. That’s the job of strikers, to score and create goals. We looked to be aggressive in the game.

"We had lots of attacking players on there. Especially at 2-1, with the final half-hour to go, we just couldn’t break them down. [Pickford] made some great saves. We could have worked him one or two times more, but he’s made two outstanding saves and kept the scoreline as it was."
