Two days out from Leicester City's second outing of the new Premier League season, manager Brendan Rodgers convened with the media at LCFC Training Ground on Thursday to discuss all the latest talking points at the Club.

City's next assignment is a visit to Emirates Stadium on Saturday (3pm BST kick-off), tackling an Arsenal side intent on challenging at the very top of the table. Leicester have a solitary point to their name after last weekend's 2-2 draw with Brentford, while a win at Crystal Palace gives the Gunners three.

Here's what the manager had to say this week...

Arsenal hit a new level – Assessing the Gunners

Brendan Rodgers has been impressed by the work being done by Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

It's been a potentially defining summer for the Gunners. The signings of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City have added quality in crucial areas, while William Saliba's emergence in central defence is the realisation of a long-term plan for the French centre-back.

The pieces seem to be coming together for Mikel Arteta at Emirates Stadium and Rodgers is looking forward to locking horns with the Spaniard's side.

"For me, Arsenal have gone to a new level," the former Liverpool and Celtic manager told the press on Thursday. "The three boys who have gone into the team… [William] Saliba was a very gifted young player alongside Wesley [Fofana] at Saint-Étienne.

"Of course, he needed some game experience, and it was difficult when Arsenal signed him, to play him, because he was so young. He went away (on loan at Saint-Étienne, Nice and Marseille) and, after playing for two or three years, he’s got experience.

"You can see now, coming back, he’s 6ft 4in, he’s quick, he can dominate the ball... so he’s a fantastic addition who gives them presence at the back. The two other guys coming in from Manchester City have made a huge difference. There’s absolutely no questions about that.

"They’re coming from an elite, world-class, winning environment. You can see their mentality. Gabriel Jesus is a world-class striker and you can see how he goes about his work... his focus, his hunger, his desire and his quality.

"When you have someone like that in the building, that can really elevate other players to a different level. Zinchenko is a player who can play in a couple of positions at the very highest level. You can see him play left-back for his club and, for Ukraine, when he plays as a central midfield player.

"I think those players have really given the squad confidence and have given Mikel the tools to play, probably, how he really wants to play. They’ve had a good pre-season and obviously started well against Crystal Palace."

Learning from Brentford – Looking after the details

The Foxes had to settle for a point against Brentford last weekend.

It was undeniably a frustrating end to an opening-day encounter with Brentford which also included so many positive signs for Rodgers' side. City were dominant for over an hour, playing a stylish brand of football at times, but they lost control of the game and were forced to settle for a point.

Rodgers believes he knows where the Foxes must do better if they are to avoid sacrificing a two-goal lead again in future. Lessons have been learned, the 49-year-old says, and he wants to see the players prove that in north London.

"It's looking after the details," he explained. "That was important for us. We had total comfort in the game at 2-0 and then we just lost a bit of organisation on a throw-in. From that, that results in a goal and then it gives a little bit of momentum to the other team.

"Certainly, that was one item of the game, and there are other things we can analyse. The attitude of the players was first-class. We wanted to win, we didn’t, and the things we have learned, we’ll take into out next game."

Transfer plans – Ins and outs

The City manager provided an update on the chances of ins and outs this summer.

After the signing of goalkeeper Alex Smithies – to boost options in that position – Rodgers is hopeful that Leicester can do more business in the market. Due to a unique set of circumstances, however, the Northern Irishman offers 'no guarantees' – as he focuses on the players already at the Club.

"It’s still going to be one where the Club need to try and move on some players," Rodgers said. "We’ll see what that releases. There’s no guarantees for us at this stage, but once anything happens, of course the Club will let me know. In the meantime, my focus is purely with the players who are here.

"If something happens later down the line, then we’ll address it then."

Outside reports continue to suggest bids could be made for some of City's star players.

Rodgers, though, remains relaxed about the subject: "It’s not just the players who have speculation around them, it can affect the whole group if you don’t manage it The message is very much to keep your eyes on the ball, keep focused on your football.

"It’s notoriously a time of the year when there’s a lot of speculation and gossip around, but it’s something I haven’t seen so much in the group. This squad have trained at a really, really good level. The intensity’s been really good and we’re focused on doing our best in the games for Leicester City."
