Premier League, FA Cup and FA Community Shield winner Marc Albrighton will be Leicester City's vice-captain for the 2022/23 season, manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed.

- Manager Brendan Rodgers has labelled Evans and Albrighton 'fantastic professionals'

Jonny Evans has recently stepped up from vice-captain role to become the Club's new captain, enabling another experienced Foxes star, Albrighton, to take up a senior position within the group. The 32-year-old, who joined Leicester in 2014, has made 284 appearances, scoring 18 goals.

"He was the choice of coaches and fellow players," Rodgers said on Thursday, two days before the visit of Southampton on Saturday (3pm kick-off). "He typifies everything you want from a modern player.

"The squad have got two real fantastic professionals now, who set a real fantastic standard every day in Jonny and Marc. They've both got good experience and the level of how they work will provide a real inspiration. The other players know they’re there to look after them and support them."

I can’t speak highly enough of him. He has great respect with his team-mates and coaches.

Albrighton's experience and know-how can be 'invaluable' for City's players, Rodgers says, while the Northern Irishman also credited Leicester's No.11 for his desire to continue performing for the Club.

"He's absolutely brilliant," Rodgers added. "I’ve had a few of those types of players here, maybe not playing so much but really important players for us off the field. When he’s asked to contribute and play, he gives everything to the cause. He still fights and shows every day in training that he wants to play.

"I can’t speak highly enough of him. He has great respect with his team-mates and coaches. Whether he starts or is on the bench, his contribution is always invaluable."
