Leicester City must 'manage the ball better' to see out games and pick up positive results, according to manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Foxes lost 2-1 to Southampton at King Power Stadium on Saturday, as a Ché Adams double turned the match on its head after James Maddison's free-kick. It's a result which means City are still searching for their first win of the new Premier League campaign after three outings.

"We’re obviously very frustrated with the result," Rodgers told LCFC TV. "I thought we were the really dominant team. We played some fantastic football. It was everything we wanted from the game, in terms of our intensity, getting to the second balls first and our creativity… we were very, very good.

"But the minute we scored the goal, we sat back. We stopped passing the ball and we stopped taking the ball, so from there, they were able to build momentum. The game got away from us in the last 25 minutes. It’s hugely disappointing. We didn’t manage the lead well again.

I thought we deserved to go in front, but we have to deal with those situations like today much better.

"That’s something we have to continually look at, but we need to manage the ball better."

Asked to articulate why City were unable to protect their lead, and why his side only tested Saints 'keeper Gavin Bazunu on one occasion, the Northern Irishman added: "Sometimes it’s a little bit of confidence and I suppose everything that’s been happening over the course of the summer, that little bit of desperation to get the result having been here before and been in front. It was disappointing because the players gave everything.

"The quality of their football, especially in the first half, was great. I thought we deserved to go in front, but we have to deal with those situations like today much better. That quality in the final third, a bit of imagination. That little bit of combination play and better finishing.

"We worked it well to the final third, we got into some good areas, but maybe didn’t have the bodies in the right areas to finish or maybe just lacked that little bit of quality in our finishing."

It's Stockport County next up for Leicester in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening (7:45pm BST kick-off).

"We want to win, whatever competition it’s in, and Tuesday gives us the chance to do that," Rodgers continued. "We’ll go away, we’ll analyse where we can be better and we’ll look to get into the next round on Tuesday."
