Leicester City have played at Wembley on 15 occasions. Five of the matches were FA Cup Finals, with Leicester City lifting that historic trophy for the first time in 2021 with their victory over Chelsea.
The Foxes also played in three League Cup Finals at Wembley, in 1997, 1999 and 2000, winning that trophy in 1997 and 2000.
Furthermore, the Club played in an FA Cup Semi-Final and two Community Shield matches at Wembley, losing to Manchester United in 2016 and defeating Manchester City in 2021.
They also played at Wembley in the 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996 Division One Play-off Finals for a place in the Premier League, winning two of these - in 1994 and 1996.
Steve Walsh played in six of these 15 Wembley matches, and would have played in a seventh, had he not been suspended for the 2000 League Cup Final.
On three occasions, in 1994, 1996 and 1997, Walsh left the Twin Towers with a winner’s medal.
This medal was presented to Steve after the dramatic victory against Dave Bassett’s Crystal Palace in the 1996 Play-Off Final for a place in the Premier League. The programme for the match is also in the Club’s archives.
The medal and the programme reflect the fact that the Football League was sponsored by Endsleigh Insurance for three seasons, from 1993/94 until 1995/96.
Steve Claridge’s famous ‘shinned’ goal four seconds from the end of extra time, only seconds after Zeljko ‘Spider’ Kalac had replaced Kevin Poole in goal in anticipation of a penalty shoot-out, is one of the most famous goals in the Club’s history.
Claridge’s play-off medal against Crystal Palace is exactly the same (apart from the date) as the play-off winners’ medal he claimed against Derby County two years earlier, when he scored twice, including a late winner in a 2-1 victory.
