Captain Jonny Evans is nearing a return to Leicester City's matchday squad after four months out through injury, says manager Brendan Rodgers.

- Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on his Leicester City squad
- Jonny Evans is continuing to progress well in his recover from a thigh issue
- Harvey Barnes could also feature soon after sustaining an ankle injury
- City host Chelsea at King Power Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off)

Evans has most recently been sidelined with a thigh issue and has not featured for the Foxes since November. The former Manchester United centre-back has made nearly 150 appearances for the Club.

Leicester host Chelsea at King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday (3pm kick-off). Graham Potter's men sealed a morale-boosting success over Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League in midweek. City, though, go into the clash on the back of a four-game losing run in all competitions.

"Jonny has trained so all being well he should come into the squad for the weekend, which is good news for us," Rodgers told the media in Seagrave on Thursday.

Harvey Barnes was withdrawn with an ankle injury in last weekend's 1-0 loss at Southampton. His manager, however, is hopeful that he could play a role in Saturday's encounter with the Blues.

"We’re hopeful he might well make it," the City manager added. "We won’t know until tomorrow so we’ll see where that’s at."

He’s managing an issue which still allows him to perform. Against Southampton, I thought he was outstanding.

Brendan Rodgers on James Maddison

James Maddison has missed games in pockets through the season, but Rodgers expects him to be available.

"With every player, they’re never normally 100 per cent," he explained. "There’s usually something. He’s managing an issue which still allows him to perform. Against Southampton, he was outstanding. He showed that quality that’s needed in a game. He’s available to play and contribute for us."
