Heading into that away fixture only a point behind Bright & Hove Albion, the Foxes had the chance to leapfrog the south coast side and Spurs in the Barclays Women’s Super League with a win in the capital.
However, a second half strike from Bethany England saw City fall to defeat, and defender Howard summed up her emotions following the full-time whistle.
“It’s very disappointing to lose,” the Scotland international told LCFC TV. “We put in a good performance, but we didn’t take any points, and unfortunately conceded a goal to give them to Spurs. I think we deserved more than what we got in the end.
“It’s ruthless at this part of the season. We dominated for large spells of the game today, but we couldn’t finish our chances. Sometimes you can put a good shift in, but it just doesn’t go your way."
Despite conceding at the home of Leyton Orient, the centre-half was keen to commend the connection being formed in the Leicester defence.
“Ash [Plumptre] and I have built a good partnership,” Howard continued. “Whoever is in the backline, we work well together. We know how to put in the hard graft and put bodies on the line, and we’ve shown that recently.
“It helps to have Janina [Leitzig] behind us, and tactically we’ve been set up really well. We’re showing that we can compete but unfortunately leave here with the loss.”
Unable to prevent England scoring, the No.15 believed Leicester dealt well with the attacking prowess of Spurs for most of the clash, and will take confidence into their next match against Aston Villa on 26 March at Villa Park (2pm kick-off).
She added: “We are fully aware of how good Tottenham’s frontline is, and we were prepared for that. We did well to limit them to only a few chances, but the one time we offered an opening, it was taken by a quality player.
“Right now, we’re disappointed. But we have a decision to make; do we feel sorry for ourselves, or get back up and fight? That’s who we are as a Club. We’ve been in this position before so we’re prepared for the next game.”
