- City picked up three points in PL2 at Leicester City Training Ground
- Amani Richards and Zach Booth scored first-half goals for the Foxes
- Leicester face Arsenal on Friday night at Meadow Park (7pm BST kick-off)

The young Foxes got their 2023/24 PL2 campaign off to a great start as they were victorious on home soil against the Rams courtesy of Amani Richards and Zach Booth both netting in the first half.

The new structure, which was announced earlier this summer, was in place for matchday one which saw City face Derby, who were part of PL2 Division 2, prior to the two leagues merging to form one league with 26 teams.

There weren't too many unfamiliar faces named in the first starting XI of the season by coach Ben Petty, with forward Richards, who scored 12 goals for the Under-18s during the last campaign, stepping up into the Development Squad.

Amani Richards celebrates his first PL2 goal of the season in Seagrave.

The forward opened his account in the 34th minute, before American Booth doubled Leicester's advantage deep into first half stoppage-time. Owen Oseni scored for the visitors less than 10 minutes from time, but it wasn't enough to spark a comeback for the Rams.

Tawanda Maswanhise was dismissed moments before the final whistle after receiving a second yellow card in Seagrave, but despite being reduced to 10 men, the Foxes held on to register their first win and three points of the season.

This Friday, meanwhile, sees City's youngsters play their second game of the campaign, as they head south to face Arsenal in the capital, with a 7pm kick-off time at Meadow Park.
