Jamie Vardy couldn’t fault his Leicester City team-mates after they put in a gutsy display against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday night.
The Foxes dominated in large periods at a rocking Leicester City Stadium in the second leg of their but were unable to fully recover from Saul Niguez’s first-half header.
England international Vardy equalised to give City hope and while they peppered the Atléti goal in the second period, the Premier League champions were thwarted by Diego Simeone’s well-drilled back line.
“We’ve definitely given our all, especially in the second half and they’ve made quite a few blocks on the line as well, which on another day could have gone in,” Vardy said at the full-time whistle.
“We were definitely in the ascendency and you could see that with the way we were playing. We made a tactical change at half-time to bring Leo [Ulloa] on to cause an aerial threat and that paid dividends for us.
“Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, but at least we gave it our all and left everything out on the pitch. The lads can be proud of themselves because they’ve given everything and I can’t fault them.
“They’re probably used to playing teams that like to keep possession of the ball more so going more direct caused them problems. It just didn’t get us the result that we wanted.”
For Vardy and his men, attentions now turn to Wednesday 26 April’s Premier League clash with Arsenal, as the Foxes look to cement their top flight status.
City’s No.9 added: “We knew it was going to be hard and we knew that every game that we’ve played in the Champions League up to now has been exactly the same.
“We’ve got some unfinished business now in the Premier League. We still need to pick more points up but it was a new experience for all of us in that dressing room.
“We definitely enjoyed it but now it’s back to the grind and getting on with the Premier League.”
