Shakespeare has challenged his Leicester City side to try and take maximum points from their remaining six Premier League games.

The Foxes boss says his men have reacted well to an eight-day break following their UEFA Champions League draw with Atlético Madrid and look sharp ahead of Wednesday's trip to Arsenal.

The clash at Emirates Stadium is the first of a string of testing Premier League fixtures and while City sit a healthy six points clear of the bottom three with two games in hand on the majority of sides around them, Shakespeare knows his men can’t take anything for granted.

He told the media on Monday: “To be fair to the players, straight after the [Atlético] game and in training this week, they’ve been bright."

“The focus is on trying to get as many points from now until the end of the season. We know what’s at stake but to be fair to them they’re very focused as a group."

“I’m not sure how many points it’s going to take [to stay up] and the weekend proved that. Teams are capable of winning games and putting points on the board so we have to make sure we look after our own club."

“I know it’s the old cliché but we have to take each game as it comes. We have to make sure we’re ready for each challenge."

"Arsenal is next and then after that we move onto West Brom. Before you know it, the games creep up on you so we have to be ready for it.”

Wednesday sees the Premier League champions take on a Gunners side that have put in convincing performances in their last two outings and remain in the hunt for a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Shakespeare added: “They thoroughly deserved their victory [against Man City] in the end even though it was a close game. I’m sure not sure what they’ll do on Wednesday night. They’ve got the options and I’m not sure whether Arsene Wenger will rotate his squad."

“He’s got good depth in the squad we’ll wait and see but ultimately, we’ll have to make sure we’re ready and at the top of our game because it’s another big challenge."

“We know we’re coming up against a very talented outfit with some special players. The Emirates in my opinion is a very special stadium as well. We go there full of confidence in terms of the run we’ve been on, but we know it’s a tough game.”
