A positive run of results has provided Leicester City with a real boost in confidence, according to defender Danny Simpson.

Unbeaten in their previous three games, Claudio Ranieri’s men next host Chelsea in the Premier League at King Power Stadium on Saturday evening.

For Simpson, it will no doubt be a difficult game for the Foxes, but with a series of productive performances to build on, the defender says his side are in a buoyant mood.

“They’ve been really good,” said Simpson of Saturday’s opponents. “They’ve got a new formation which I can imagine they’ve worked on a lot and it’s working for them.

“Obviously we know that they’ve got top players that have picked up their form from last season. [Eden] Hazard and Diego Costa have been banging in goals for fun which has helped them. They’re a real strong unit and we know we’re in for a good game.

“I think Man City were playing three at the back and we coped with that well. We looked at their weaknesses and we exploited them. They’re both top teams with the players that they’ve got. They’re world-class players, so it’s a similar type of game.”

The character shown against Everton last time out saw the Foxes recover from a goal down to win 2-1 – a result that Simpson felt exuded fighting spirit.

Simpson continued: “To go 1-0 down against Everton and come back in the way we did meant it was a great result and a great performance.

“That was off the back of the two previous games, because the confidence is starting to pick up.”

No doubt another boost for City will be the return of striker Jamie Vardy, who Simpson believes is raring to go after sitting out the last four outings.

“It’s massive to have him back,” Simpson added. “He’s our focal point and you know he’s the man in our team that can score us a goal.

“He looks hungry and he looks like he’s missed his football. It’s good for us because he can’t wait to be back on the pitch.”
