Steve Beaglehole wants his players to put Saturday’s Premier League Cup defeat to West Ham United behind them and focus on Tuesday’s trip to Grimsby.

In their first group fixture of the 2016/17 Premier League Cup, the Foxes were beaten 2-0 at Loughborough University by the Hammers.

Marcus Browne opened the scoring for West Ham in the second half following an even first period, before Nomingos Quina’s stunning 45-yard chip on 69 minutes sealed three Premier League Cup points for the visitors.

Now, Beaglehole says his players must focus on their Checkatrade Trophy trip to Grimsby Town on Tuesday.

Reflecting on the clash with West Ham, Beaglehole told LCFC TV: “We couldn’t cope with their movement on the ball and they looked very good, so we’re disappointed in that aspect.

“We were a young side and we need our players to reach the heights that we’re setting them, but we were second best today.

“West Ham were very bright and showed a lot of desire to get on the ball and make things happen.

“Grimsby is a great opportunity now for our younger lads to play in a cup game against some senior footballers and put today’s defeat behind them.”
